BTG research in external ballistics has focused on developing acoustic methods in external ballistics (measuring velocity and drag), the effect of intermediate barriers on projectile stability and accuracy, and measuring ammunition performance for comparison with published specifications. Current and future work hopes to leverage this past work to improve armor designs utilizing unique armor geometries and materials to reduce penetration of bullets and explosively formed projectiles (EFPs) by disrupting projectile stability, absorbing energy, and laterally distributing momentum. |
