Amy Courtney is shown below describing our ballistic pressure wave research at the United States Military Academy at West Point where she served as a physics professor. She earned an M.S. in biomedical engineering from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in medical engineering and medical physics from a joint Harvard/MIT program. Her Ph.D. research addressed mechanical properties of tissues at high strain rates. Dr. Amy Courtney has taught anatomy and physiology as well as physics and served as a research scientist at the Cleveland Clinic and Western Carolina University. She has successfully applied for grants from national agencies as well as private foundations. She has published papers in the fields of biomedical engineering, traumatic brain injury, ballistics, acoustics, brain injury and education. |
Michael Courtney is shown above in his ballistics lab. He earned a PhD in experimental Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and published papers in theoretical astrophysics, experimental atomic physics, chaos theory, quantum theory, acoustics, ballistics, traumatic brain injury, and education. He served as the director of the forensic science program at Western Carolina University and as a college professor, teaching physics, statistics, and forensic science. He also worked for seven years developing RF test systems for design validation and manufacturing quality assessment for Cisco Systems. Together with his wife, Amy, Michael founded the Ballistics Testing Group in 2001 to study remote neurological effects of penetrating projectiles. |
