Science Education

Our educational work has focused on improving education by clearly defining the educational mission, imparting increased student understanding of expectations in core courses, and creating high-quality quantitative laboratories that integrate technology with exciting topic areas.

Past efforts have included acoustic methods for measuring the velocity of a potato from a potato cannon, teaching wave physics and Fourier analysis with a bass guitar, direct acoustic measurements of fall times, and integration of experimental rocketry into the science curriculum to study equations of motion and propellant chemistry.

In the future, we hope to broaden the use of experimental rocketry across the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics curriculum as well as incorporating sensor technology in a much broader array of laboratories for testing fundamental principles as well as leveraging the scientific method in product performance testing.
