Our educational work has focused on improving education by clearly defining the educational mission, imparting increased student understanding of expectations in core courses, and creating high-quality quantitative laboratories that integrate technology with exciting topic areas. Past efforts have included acoustic methods for measuring the velocity of a potato from a potato cannon, teaching wave physics and Fourier analysis with a bass guitar, direct acoustic measurements of fall times, and integration of experimental rocketry into the science curriculum to study equations of motion and propellant chemistry. |
In the future, we hope to broaden the use of experimental rocketry across the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics curriculum as well as incorporating sensor technology in a much broader array of laboratories for testing fundamental principles as well as leveraging the scientific method in product performance testing. |
